My friend Kerri wrote a blog post — Resolutions? No, Thanks. — that got me thinking about my intentions for 2011.
My usual goals (grow three inches and develop a life-threatening allergy to fried foods) notwithstanding, I’ve decided to join the Bookalicious Babe’s 100 Book Challenge for 2011. She says, “I challenge you to join me to read either 50 or 100 books from January 1st, 2011, to December 31st, 2011. You can do it! I don’t care what you read, or how you read it: an ebook, a library book, a used book, or a brand new book.”
I have — literally — three shelves of books I’ve bought and not read. I want to read them, but I keep distracting myself with fan fiction. And since I don’t think I’ll be able to quit reading that cold turkey, I’m going to try the 50-book option. I should be able to manage a book a week and still have time to feed my Jack/Ianto fixation. Unless I have a strong hankering to read a specific book, I think I’ll just close my eyes and pull one off the shelf at random.
The first book of 50 will be Donna Leon’s Friends in High Places, which is part of the Commissario Guido Brunetti series. A review will follow within the week.
